For more
than 30 years, Armory House has had the privilege of housing
international students from more than 20 countries such as
France, Spain, the Netherlands, Japan, China, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, India,
Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Brazil and Canada. (International
students account for 25% of AH residents.)
We
understand how challenging it can be for international students to be
thousands of miles away from home. Therefore, we offer special
housing arrangements and activities to ensure that their stay
in the U.S. will be safe and comfortable.
Housing
Arrangements:
International students may ask permission to stay during
University breaks such as
Thanksgiving, Winter and Spring Break. Once permission
is granted, students may stay at AH free of charge. (The average daily
charge on campus is $50 per day.) Please note that for early
move in, however, both domestic and international students
will be charged an additional daily fee.
Safety: During the breaks, while most American students
go home to spend time with their family, many international
students choose to stay at AH. The locks at AH
Main and AH Suites will be changed in order to provide
maximum security to our residents. At that time, it will be
necessary to obtain a new key from the office.
Activities:
AH offers a wide variety of activities to
welcome international students and enhance their living
experience. Some examples of these activities are
International Student Welcome Night,
Open Door Night, Ice Skating, and Food
Tastings from local restaurants. In addition,
Armory House also participates in Intramural Sports such
as Soccer, Football, Basketball and Volleyball.
Academic and
Career Support is also a crucial part of our program.
Special events have been planned for residents to enhance
both their academic and career goals. "How to Choose Your Major",
"Resume Writing Workshop", and a tutoring program are just a
few of those examples.
By
living in the same community and participating in different
activities organized by AH, both domestic and international
students can significantly learn about different cultures
and enhance their learning and living experience.
