Armory House is located in the very heart of campus. Your neighborhood is where all the excitement of campus sports can be found — at Memorial Stadium and the Assembly Hall, as well as at the ARC (the student recreational facility).  And your classes or Green Street shopping are only a short walk or bike ride away.

If you need to get across campus in a hurry the MTD bus line picks students up every 8 minutes just one block from Armory House, at the corner of 1st and Armory, and can take you nearly anywhere you need to go on campus.

The ARC is located just three blocks south of Armory House on Peabody Dr.

Meet up with your friends and experience all that the Activities and Recreation Center (ARC)has to offer. The ARC opened in August 2008 as one of the largest on-campus recreation facilities in the country.  It is home to 4 gymnasiums, both indoor and outdoor pools, walking/ jogging track, rock climbing, and many additional facilities. Memorial Stadium is three blocks south of Armory House at the corner of First and Kirby. 

Memorial Stadium is home to the University of Illinois Men’s Varsity Football team and has a capacity of nearly 70,000 people.  Whether you’re a student, faculty, alumni, or just a football fan, Memorial Stadium provides an enjoyable and unforgettable atmosphere!  (more info)


The State Farm Center is just four blocks south of Armory House at the corner of First and Kirby.

Home to the fighting Illini men and women’s basketball programs, the State Farm Center is always a student favorite. Stand close to the floor as part of the Orange Krush, or sit and enjoy with friends. The State Farm Center is also the home for student entertainment where many popular concerts and musicals are held each year.  The State Farm Center is directly south of AHP at the corner of First St. and Kirby Ave.  (more info)


The Armory is located just two blocks east of Armory House at Fourth and Armory. 

The Armory was originally designed as a military drill hall and more than 2,000 soldiers used the Armory as a dormitory during World War I.  Today, the Armory Building has many functions.  It houses the offices of several University of Illinois departments and units for Army, Air Force, Marine Corps,and Navy ROTC.  Numerous academic courses are held each semester in the Armory’s classrooms.   The Armory is one of the closest buildings to Armory House located just two blocks away. (more info)


The Ice Arena is located just two blocks east at the corner of Fourth and Armory. 

The Ice Arena offers a variety of skating opportunities for the campus and surrounding communities.   In addition to instructional ice skating programs, the arena supports intramural sport leagues and club  activities including broomball and Illini Hockey.  Located just across from the Armory, the Ice Arena is a popular place to meet up with other students.  (more info)


The Main Quad is located just five blocks east at the corner of Wright and Armory. 

Located in the heart of campus, you will always see students out and about on the Main Quad running  to class, visiting with friends, or relaxing in the sun. The quad is bordered by the Illini Union on the north end and Foellinger Auditorium on the south.  Several classroom buildings complete the quadrangle and make this location a campus favorite.  Walk the straight shot to the quad in less than ten minutes, or walk one block and catch the bus to be dropped off on Wright Street, where the entrance to the quad is located. (more info)


Foellinger Auditorium is located five blocks east of Armory House.

Whether you are looking for entertainment or a large classroom, Foellinger Auditorium is the place to go.  Many freshmen will have their first classes in the auditorium as it houses one of the larger lecture halls on campus.  Many smaller concerts and guest speakers also choose Foellinger as their venue. Located on the south end of the main quad, this beautiful building is brightly lit in the evening to highlight the center of campus. (more info)


Illini Union is located on Green Street at the corner of Green and Wright.

The Illini Union is located on the north end of the Quad and is considered the heart of campus. The Union offers many resources for students and faculty including quiet places to study, to eat, to attend informational programs, and to enjoy entertainment such as concerts or bowling.   The Union also houses a hotel, which is great when guests come to visit or parents are here for the weekend! In addition, the Union is home to the offices of all the registered student organizations on campus, so it provides easy access to all the information you need to get involved at the U of I. (more info)


The Main and Undergrad Libraries are just five blocks east of Armory House.

If you are looking for some peace and quiet, the Main and Undergrad Libraries are the place for you! Both libraries offer an extensive collection of books, music, DVDs, and even video games for rent while also offering a place to study.  While studying at a table, on a couch, or in a private cubicle, feel free to use any of the libraries’ public computers.  The libraries are great resources, and they are only a quick walk away from Armory House!


Green Street is just four blocks north of Armory House. 

As a student at the U of I, you will enjoy spending time on Green Street. That is where you will find popular restaurants, coffee shops, campus night life, bookstores, Illini apparel, and convenience. Green Street is a busy campus location—day or night.  Green Street is just four blocks from Armory House. Enjoy the short walk with friends to go out one night or take the bus for added convenience.

In less than 10 minutes, I can leave AH and walk to the Assembly Hall, Memorial Stadium, ARC (the student recreation center), the main Quad and the Library. As a business student, I can get to BIF, the main business building, in less than 5 minutes, which is always helpful if you wake up for an 9:00 AM class at 8:52. The bus stop is only a block from AH, making anywhere on campus easily accessible.
